Our readers have expressed an interest in seeing WSW distributed in Akron. A shortage of womanpower makes it difficult for us to extend our distribution beyond the Cleveland area. If you have any suggestions or energy, please let us know.

For the benefit of the Gold Flower Defense Committee, Oven Productions is presenting a noteworthy concert June 10, highlighting nationally known feminist performers. All profits from the benefit will go to the defense committee recently formed to support three Cleveland women who have been charged with murder after defending themselves during violent assaults. Performing at the concert will be The Izquierda Ensemble, a highly acclaimed acoustic jazz group of four women from Oregon, and Rita Coriell, woman well known to the Cleveland community as a fine feminist performer. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m. in the University Center Auditorium on the Cleveland State University campus. Tickets for the benefit are $5, $10 or $20 (all seats non-reserved, contribute what you can); advance purchase is recommended.

The Gold Flower Defense Committee is an ongoing organization formed to support all women who defend themselves against violence. Currently, the committee's energies are going into the defense case of Kathy Thomas, who is being tried for murder. Thomas was arrested after shooting her common-law husband, the result of an argument during which he pistol-whipped and threatened her for several days. The committee's stated purpose is to "affirm women's right to defend themselves against violent attack by providing financial, political, personal, community and legal support.' In the recent murder cases of Barbara Hanzel and Tahira Wadud, the Gold Flower Committee was partially responsible for the resulting suspension of Wadud's sentence and the dismissal of Hanzell's case.

The Izquierda Ensemble (pronounced "ease-keyAIR-the" means "left" in Spanish) will be making a rare Cleveland appearance before performing at the 5th Annual National Women's Music Festival in Illinois. Utilizing an innovative jazz form that emphasizes vocal harmonies, this dynamic quartet won the respect of thousands last summer at the National Women's and the Michigan Women's Music Festivals. The group's nontraditional vocal styles are accompanied by piano, flute, guitar and percussion.
The music of Izquierda will speak to many feminist and Third World issues; most of their songs are written by guitarist Naomi Littlebear, a Chicana woman. Izquierda's musical focus weaves many harmonies, sounds, instruments and voices into a singular harmony. The result of Izquierda's per.
formance will be a very moving and involving experience.
The Izquierda Ensemble is Naomi Littlebear, Kristan Aspen, Izetta Smith, and Robin Chilstrom. Their backgrounds span such skilled areas as composing and organizing for a women's choir, cultural work in Oregon, years of professional playing as instrumentalists and vocalists, work as actresses and directors with The Storefront Theatre, and studing the unique style of Mongolian singing.
Rita Coriell will be a familiar artist to many of the audience. Her warm performances with Oven Productions have included an appearance at the Chris Williamson concert and her own concert last fall. She has been a featured performer at the Michigan Women's Music Festival, Bowling Green State University and Heidelberg College. Her music is about her life and other women's lives, using images drawn from nature, stories or incidents that have been powerful and symbolic, spiritual visions. You will be moved to laughter, anger, tears; you will hear some part of your own life sung. Don't miss this opportunity to hear this outstanding local artist.
